Some people may find themselves in the position that they are diagnosed with a terminal illness or some people just wish to make a contribution to their own funeral. They may wish to be involved in the arrangements of their funeral. This could involve special messages to be given on the day or readings that have been written or chosen either alone or with the assistance of close relatives.
As a Humanist Celebrant I am able to assist with this type of request and help either you or a loved one prepare. There are no hard and fast rules here, everyone is different and each request is unique. Q. Can I write my funeral before I die?
Yes , this can be done at anytime you wish and can be updated as and when you require.
Q. If I write my own funeral, can I leave a piece for my family to say their own words?
Absolutely, this will be very important as funerals are about rituals and in themselves are part of the healing process for many mourners. If you can include the family from the beginning this may be helpful. It is your choice. The aim is to be person centred and therefore you have the choice how you would like the ceremony to be formatted.
