About Moyra Summers

If you are looking at this page, thank you. I haven’t worked for two years due to being immunosuppressed. In case you’re wondering, I’m fine – very well in fact – but I need to let you know that I’m retiring from Humanists UK celebrancy. It’s been a big decision, but the right one for me just now. Thank you for your interest and support, and if I’ve conducted a ceremony for you, a very special thank you!

If you’re reading this looking for a celebrant, please go to Humanists UK ‘Find a Celebrant’ page at  https://humanists.uk/ceremonies/find-a-celebrant/ and contact one of my lovely colleagues who will be delighted to help you.

When my accreditation ends in a few days, this website will be discontinued. If you wish to contact me personally, my email address is moyrasummers@yahoo.co.uk  (Tel: 01257 231332)

Hi!  I’m Moyra, and I’m accredited by Humanists UK to deliver non-religious weddings, partnerships, namings and funeral ceremonies. I live in Euxton, near Chorley in Lancashire.  I have been a humanist for some time, and became a celebrant because I wanted to help to create sensitive and meaningful ceremonies for non-religious people. I feel very privileged to belong to a national network of celebrants trained and accredited by Humanists UK to write and conduct non religious ceremonies. You do not have to be a humanist to use our services but simply prefer to have a non religious ceremony.

Having trained as a teacher, I spent many years teaching different age groups of children, my subjects being English and Drama. I spent the last two decades of my teaching career working in a special school for children with learning difficulties, where I had a responsibility for Art and Music. I am an Honours Graduate in Literature and have a wide experience and love of poetry, literature and music, all of which contribute to this work. In fact being a celebrant brings together many of the practical, organisational, social and emotional skills I’ve developed over the years. When I took early retirement I trained to become a humanist celebrant and I feel as though I could not have done anything which suits me better.

As a humanist I believe that we only have one life, and it is important to make it matter. I believe that individual responsibility, social cooperation and mutual respect are life-affirming principles which give meaning and shape to our lives and through which we can build a more humane society.  I am aware of the great responsibility involved in leading a wedding, naming or funeral ceremony, the importance of fulfilling the wishes of the couple, the parents or the family,  and personalising the ceremony.

You are welcome to contact me to discuss any aspect of the ceremony you are interested in. For weddings and namings I am happy to work mainly in Lancashire or parts of the surrounding counties. For funerals I will work in and around Chorley, Preston, Leyland and Blackburn.

If you should want to book me or discuss things further please e-mail

 Data Protection

As a Humanists UK celebrant, I receive personal information, such as names, phone numbers and email addresses that you submit to me for the purposes of writing a ceremony script. Inevitably, a ceremony that best reflects your wishes and celebrates a life or a birth or a marriage, is by its nature personal. Ceremonies are vehicles for stories. These stories are valuable and meaningful. All information received by me is stored securely and is only used for the specific purpose of producing a personalised ceremony. It will not be passed on to or sold to any third parties. In the event of illness etc the live ceremony script would be shared with a colleague, simply in order for your ceremony to take place. This shared script would then be erased by the colleague. The personal information that you provide for the purpose of building a ceremony, and the actual script, will be retained for a period of seven years in case you require my services again, and to provide continuity. All hard copy is shredded. If you wish you to have all your information erased immediately following a ceremony, or at any time thereafter, please get in touch by phone or email to confirm this and I will do so.
