I’m Shirley Gaston, 42 years old, a professional management trainer and specialist humanist wedding celebrant. I’m friendly, warm and informal and have a voice that carries!
I specialise in outdoor informal ceremonies, involving the audience (especially children) and in including meaningful, personalised rituals like ring warming, hand fasting and candle lighting. The most important aspect for me is to design the ceremony around you and your family to make it really meaningful and hopefully as enjoyable as the party that follows.
The process involves me meeting and interviewing you and us working together to choose music, poetry and rituals to reflect you and your relationship. I then work to develop your ceremony in consultation with you. Where necessary we rehearse together and then when it comes to the big day, I arrive a while before the ceremony to make sure that everything is in place. I deliver the ceremony (which usually involves tears and laughter) and following the ceremony I send you a presentation copy of the manuscript and a gift.
I am based in beautiful North Yorkshire. If you’d like to meet me, please get in touch.
“We couldn’t have asked for anyone better to act as our celebrant than Shirley. She came to visit us before the ceremony and made us feel so at ease that we were shedding tears just telling her about each other and our story. She used all the things we told her to write a perfect ceremony for us and was full of ideas for how we could make the ceremony extra special. On the day itself she had our guests joining in and laughing and delivered the ceremony perfectly. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. So thank you Shirley for being part of our day and starting us off on our married life so well. We will be recommending you!”
