Naming Ceremonies

Humanist Naming Ceremonies are a celebration created to welcome a new person into a loving community of family and friends.  Naming ceremonies have no rules as each ceremony is created according to personalities, circumstances, and family set-up. Naming ceremonies are not just for babies. They can be joint celebrations of the child’s first birthday. To welcome older adopted children into the family.  A celebration for newly blended families making parental promises and welcoming stepchildren. To honour transgender and non-binary re-naming.

Naming ceremonies tend not to be as formal as other ceremonies. The ceremonies often last around 20 minutes and as they have no legal or religious standing can take place in your own home, garden, or any place public or private that you desire.

Every naming ceremony is unique as it is created for the individual and their family. Naming ceremonies are joyful affairs full of laughter and fun. They are inclusive to people of all faiths and are often followed by a celebratory party.

They are many different lovely elements that can be included in a naming ceremony. There can be dedications and promises from parents or other loved ones. The appointing of Guide parents or Mentors.  A beautiful symbolic act or gesture such as – creating a time capsule, fingerprints on a tree of life, giving of gifts, lighting unity candles, planting a tree, ringing a bell of unity, or a wishing tree, guests signing a memory book… Special people in the child’s life can give a reading, sing, play music or read a much-loved poem.

As I am a magician. I can also add magic to your ceremony….
