Funerals

If you would like me to conduct a funeral the first thing we will need to do is arrange a meeting so that we can discuss how you would like the service conducted. During the meeting we will discuss the life of the deceased, how you would like them remembered and the content of the ceremony. It is often helpful to have a number of family members present to give an overall and honest portrayal of the individual. It also gives me the chance to hear stories and memories that should be included as part of the service.

If you have a view on exactly how he service should be conducted, or indeed if the deceased has left clear wishes, we shall together decide upon the format so that it conforms to these wishes in so far as possible. If, however, you are not quite so sure I can advise and suggest ideas on the different options. An important part of the ceremony will be whether family or friends wish to speak, poetry and music to be played and the format of the service, such as creation or burial. We can discuss all of this at the meeting.

I think it is important to celebrate the life of the deceased, giving an honest portrayal of their life but it also provides a wonderful opportunity to share happy memories, recall their achievements and, where appropriate, remember the deceased’s sense of humour.

After the initial meeting I shall prepare a draft script of the service that I shall forward to you for your views and any suggested amendments to ensure I provide the ceremony that you wish.

After the service I will provide you a hard copy and electronic version of the script as keepsake.

My standard fee for a funeral or memorial is £180, including travel within a 50-mile radius of Andover. We can agree an extra charge for other locations.
