A Humanist funeral offers a way to honour their life in a way that is personal, heartfelt, and true to who they were—without religious content, but with honesty, warmth, and dignity.

As a Humanist celebrant, I work closely with families to create non-religious ceremonies that reflect the unique life, values, and personality of the person who has died. Whether you’re looking for something simple and quiet or a celebration filled with music, memories, and laughter, the ceremony will be shaped entirely around what feels right for you and your loved ones.

What a Humanist Funeral Offers

A ceremony that focuses on the life lived, the memories shared, and the impact they had on others

Space for stories, readings, personal tributes, music, or moments of quiet reflection

A respectful and inclusive environment for people of all beliefs

Freedom from formal scripts—every word is written specifically for your loved one

How We’ll Work Together
From our first conversation, I’ll take time to understand who your loved one was—their life story, their character, their quirks, and what they meant to the people around them. I usually meet with family and/or friends in person or via phone/video call, and I’ll keep in touch as the ceremony takes shape.

You’ll have the chance to review and approve the ceremony script in advance, and I’ll guide you through choices for structure, tone, readings, music, and any contributions from others. I’ll be available throughout to answer questions and provide support.

Celebrating Life with Warmth and Respect
Funerals can be difficult, but they can also be full of love. Many families find comfort in sharing memories, hearing stories they’ve never heard before, or even smiling at a familiar joke. Where appropriate, a little gentle humour can be part of the healing. I aim to strike the right balance between reflection and celebration.

Why I Do This Work
I became a Humanist celebrant after attending my uncle’s funeral in 2013. It was a Humanist ceremony, and I had the honour of giving two readings. The experience stayed with me. I realised how powerful a well-told life story can be—and how important it is to mark a life with meaning, not just formality.

Since then, I’ve trained with Humanists UK and have been privileged to lead many ceremonies, each one unique. I’m also a member of the Humanists UK training team, helping to prepare and support new celebrants across the country.

Where I Work
I regularly lead ceremonies at crematoria, natural burial grounds, cemeteries and other venues across Warwickshire, the West Midlands and beyond. Familiar locations include Oakley Wood, Canley, Rainsbrook, Redditch, Banbury, and Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground, among others.

What to Do Next
If you’re planning a funeral and want to create something personal and respectful—something that does justice to the person you’re remembering—I’d be honoured to help.

Please feel free to get in touch for a conversation. There’s no pressure or obligation, and I’ll do my best to support you in whatever way I can.

Humanist Funerals – A Personal and Meaningful Goodbye Saying goodbye to someone you love is never easy.
