The best thing about a Humanist ceremony is its personal, written only for you and you can be as wacky or formal as you like. So if you want to theme your ceremony around your favourite movie or something more conventional, I will work with you to achieve your vision.

 

 

How your ceremony is Made for You

If you choose me, we’ll have a longer conversation where you’ll tell me about you and your expectations for your ceremony. We’ll talk about practical arrangements like the people involved, the venue, the length, readings, music, your ideas about a symbolic act, your vows and rings (if you’re having them), as well as many other things.

I’ll also ask you to talk about yourselves, including how you met, how your relationship developed, holidays you’ve taken together, family and friends, when you decided you wanted to be together forever and almost certainly much, much more. Throughout the conversation, I’ll be making lots of notes so that I get an accurate sketch of you both and your relationship, within the boundaries of what you feel comfortable to share. Often the most moving ceremonies are in the little details you give to me at this meeting.

Then I’ll go through all the facets of your story and draft the script for your ceremony. I’ll share it with you so that you can review and edit the content. We might do this a few times until you’re happy that you have the ceremony that you’ve dreamed of. The ceremony that’s Made for You.

 

 

Before your big day

As you get close to your big day, it’s always a good idea to have a wedding rehearsal in your chosen venue. During the rehearsal, we won’t go through your whole ceremony, but we’d mark entrances and exits, cues for readings and music, as well as practicing your symbolic act. If you have small or furry participants – love working with kids and pets by the way – then it’s a chance to try out their parts and head off possible hitches. By the end, you will be reassured that everyone knows what to do, when and where to do it so that your ceremony runs smoothly.

 

 

On the day

I’ll arrive well before the start of your ceremony to make sure that everything’s set up as you have asked and touch base with all those involved. I’ll come armed with spares of everything in the ceremony that may be accidentally forgotten – you’d be surprised what people mislay when they’re full of excitement. Then as your guests arrive, I will be waiting at the front with a big smile, ready for the cue that you’re ready to start. Your ceremony will be in my safe hands and you won’t need to worry about anything more than focusing on each other.

 

 

 

Afterwards

A week or so later, I will send you a presentation copy of your wedding ceremony, presented in a lovely binder for you to keep.
