Humanist Funerals and Memorials
A Humanist Funeral
gives the opportunity for a ceremony that remembers the person, an opportunity to mark the end of a life, without religion, and an occasion that offers a personal touch, meeting the needs of family and friends. At the core of the ceremony is always the person and the occasion can be crafted to suit their personality, interests, likes and loves.
Mourning is an essential part of dealing with loss but sometimes a degree of lightness or humour is right for that individual. A Humanist Celebrant will gauge that and can offer the opportunity for a funeral that meets these needs.
Humanist Funerals
Usually take place in Cemetery or Crematorium Chapels but the ceremony can take place in a variety of locations increasingly as an alternative to traditional Cemetery Burial or cremation, people are opting for Green Burials and sometimes a ceremony is an alternative venue.
Special Circumstances
My own particular background is in managing Health and Social Care, supporting people with disabilities, particularly children with life limiting illness and young people and adults with a physical and learning disability. I hope that this helps me understand a variety of needs, in a wide range of situations, dealing with them sensitively.
Memorial Ceremonies
Sometimes there is a need for a separate memorial ceremony. There may not have been time to get friends and relatives together, a person may have died overseas with few people having the opportunity to attend the actual funeral or sometimes there may not have been a body to inter or cremate, for example where a person has donated their body to medical science
What you get from using a Humanist Celebrant
If you opt for a Humanist Ceremony you will get the services of a trained Celebrant who has the support of a network of colleagues and the backing of a national organisation that ensures that we work to a transparent code of conduct. BHA Celebrants take part in continuous professional development and there is a quality assurance process to maintain professional standards.
As with all BHA accredited Celebrants I have been trained and accredited by the British Humanist Association to conduct funerals and have signed the Commitment to Quality and Code of Conduct.
