Hello and welcome,

I’m Gill and I’m accredited with Humanists UK to conduct non-religious weddings, partnerships, vow renewals, funerals and memorials.

I am based in the Eden Valley within the beautiful county of Cumbria I work across the county and will happily travel to surrounding areas such as Yorkshire, Lancashire, Teeside and the Borders. One of the joys of being celebrant is that we can work anywhere so I am always happy to travel further afield or abroad to deliver the prefect ceremony for you.

Humanism centres around the individual , we are all unique and life is for celebrating, whether that is the beginning, the middle, the end, or at any point between.

The joy of a Humanist Ceremony is that there are no rules, they are as unique as you are. What matters is creating a ceremony that is right for you, your family and your friends. Ceremonies can be calm and mediative, informal and uplifting, quietly dignified, free spirited and emotional, amusing and fun, raucous and wild or even totally weird and whacky. The key is to find the right balance and blend for those who are at the heart of our ceremony.

Ceremonies are stories, I take the time to listen, and to hear, as through conversation and discussion the essence of the individual is revealed. The stories I hear vary in intensity and tone, they are often touching and deeply moving but can be funny – both “funny peculiar” and “funny ha-ha”. My role is to weave these stories, the shared memories, the key events and the personal touches such as music, prose or poetry into something that is amazing, incredible and uniquely personal.

Working as a celebrant, for me, is the culmination of years spent working with people in legal and training settings. It is a huge privilege, and a role that I treasure. By its nature we see people at very emotional points in their lives and there is often laughter and tears – sometimes of happiness and sometimes of sadness – but with care, empathy and compassion these emotionally charged experiences can be transformed into something beautiful, meaningful and memorable.
