Memorial Cermonies

The difference between a Funeral and Memorial Ceremony

A funeral ceremony is generally held with the deceased’s coffin present, followed by burial or cremation, whereas at a memorial ceremony the deceased’s remains and coffin are not present.

Why Choose a Memorial Ceremony?

You may choose to have a memorial ceremony for a range of reasons. It may be your loved one has died in another country and was cremated there, or perhaps there is uncertainty about when a funeral can take place but family and friends wish to gather to mourn their loss and celebrate the life that has ended.

Some people choose a memorial ceremony as they feel it offers a more relaxed atmosphere or that a venue with particular significance is more appropriate. Others find flexibility regarding the day of the week, time of day and the length of time guests can spend together, suits them better.

The Ceremony

Whatever the reason for your choice I can help you create a meaningful occasion to remember, celebrate and pay tribute to your loved one. I’ll visit you either at home or at the venue you have chosen, to plan the ceremony with you and discuss your choices of music, poems, and tributes. Once I’ve created a draft you have the opportunity to review it to ensure it is as you wish. As with all my ceremonies, you will receive a keepsake copy of the script and my charge is £220 for a ceremony in East Kent.
