About me

I’ve been a humanist for many years. As a child I was brought up with a very casual Christian influence – hymns in primary school and visits to church with my nan – but in my teenage years I found this worldview just didn’t resonate with me. I always found my awe and wonder in the science of the natural world… in art… and in the connections we make with each other. I would later learn that this evidence-based and compassionate outlook was Humanism. Humanism is all about being kind and decent human beings. Our morals come from within; from our unique ability to reason, and a human need for connection, community and collaboration.

I love my job so much. I love sitting down with couples to hear their unique love story, and then poring over all the gorgeous little details to create a script that truly reflects them. I love the emotion of the big day, the intention in every aspect of the ceremony, the connectedness of all those present. It is truly a privilege to be a part of these special moments in people’s lives.

I’m an ex-primary school teacher, with an educational background in theatre, philosophy, English Literature/Language and creative writing . I am a clear and confident public speaker, and writing has always been a particular strength of mine. I love the specificity of the English language. How finely one can pinpoint a feeling or a concept. How emotive and expressive it can be.

I am a celebrant accredited by the Humanists UK charity. This means I have studied theory; attended residential training; independently completed detailed practical and written assignments on scriptwriting, choreography and delivery of ceremonies; and been assessed to meet their professional standards. HUK celebrants have ongoing training, CPD and assessment to ensure that these standards are consistently maintained across their UK network.

The HUK network is a wonderful support and resource for us as celebrants. There are hundreds of us all over the country and beyond. All keen to share good practice, to share knowledge, and to step in if needed to support one another. When you book a HUK celebrant you can have complete confidence.

Humanists are by definition, inclusive, empathetic seekers of joy – and I absolutely and emphatically welcome LGBTQ+ couples.

On a more personal note- I’m a very happily married 41 year old mum to two very active little boys, and every summer (when I’m not writing scripts or marrying lovely humans) you’ll find me dancing in a field at festivals with our family. I love great music. I’m a massive fan of Prince. My current flavour-of-the-month is 70s Soul, and a lot of Arctic Monkeys  – but I listen to a bit of everything really! I’m currently learning the drums, and really enjoying playing along with my favourite songs.

I love singing, and going to the theatre. Our family go camping by the sea. I’m very much on the left of politics. Whenever I get the chance (which is rare since becoming a mum!) you’ll also find me snowboarding or my absolute favourite activity – scuba-diving. I love water. I love being in it, on it, near it. Kayaking, paddle-boarding, snorkelling, messing about in boats… it’s a shame Birmingham is so far from the ocean!

So that’s me! I hope this has helped you to get to know me a bit, and how I came to do this wonderful job. If you think I might be the celebrant for you, then get in touch!
