Two different life experiences led me to become a celebrant. First my work. I am a university professor, and my research over twenty years has focused on people’s working lives and careers. This involves listening to people’s stories about their lives, about why things turned out the way they did, and about recasting these narratives for others to relate to. In some important ways it is a lot like celebrancy. The second experience was attending a humanist wedding and realising how meaningful those retold stories are when shared amongst family and friends. In other words, I realized just how much a ceremony matters.
On the practical side, I live in Nottingham, am married, with three grown up children and an awesome granddaughter. I love books, films, music and am especially happy on my bike.
I usually work in and around Nottingham and the surrounding area, but am happy to consider other places.
