About Louise
Welcome! I’m Louise Curtis, and I’ve been working as a Humanist Celebrant since 2017.
Finding celebrancy happened to me almost by accident, when a friend asked me to “say a few words” at their first born’s naming ceremony. I agreed immediately, assuming I’d be giving a short reading, only to be sent a full naming ceremony script! On the day, I found that I was able to command the room and stage manage the ceremony pretty well with no training, and that I really enjoyed myself. That night I applied to train with Humanists UK to become a naming celebrant.
Something clicked in me when I found Humanist Ceremonies. A former Philosophy student, I had always considered myself to be humanist, so my beliefs aligned perfectly with the job. On top of that, I’ve always felt comfortable with public speaking, and I love to write. I followed my training in naming ceremonies with weddings and funerals.
Being a celebrant is rewarding and beautiful. I’ve always been interested in people, and I love being able to tell their stories at such important moments in life. Working with families to make their days feel right for them makes me tick.
When I’m not working on ceremonies, I can usually be found with knitting needles or a book in my hands, either at home or out exploring the world.
If you’d like to discuss a ceremony of any type with me, or just to chat, please get in touch.
