About Meg

You might not be aware of it, but you probably have an idea of the kind of person you would like your celebrant to be.

So here’s a little information about me, to help you decide if I am a good fit.

Photo of Meg RowleyI was drawn to humanism, like many, when we were planning our own wedding. We are not religious, and we knew we wanted something that reflected us, our lives together, and all the wonderful people that were going to be with us when we said “I do.” A humanist ceremony allowed us to get married in the way that we wanted, in a beautiful garden surrounded by family and friends, with lots of fun (and also a few tears) thrown in for good measure.

To me, humanism is not so much about what I don’t believe in but what I do – kindness, empathy, care for the people and the world around us and a commitment to living our one life in the richest way that we can.

I’m based near Ilkley, in West Yorkshire. I have studied drama and creative writing, and have worked as many things including a freelance journalist, copywriter and in communications for charities, the NHS and arts organisations. I’ve also done introductory training in counselling, and am passionate about supporting people by listening.

I am also committed to equality, and my work will always be inclusive. I fully welcome same-sex and LGBT ceremonies. Quite simply, I love to work with any two people who would like to be married, regardless of gender, identity, background or anything else.

In my spare time I like to write, run and spend time with my family in the gorgeous Yorkshire countryside.

I’m often described as warm, chatty and friendly. Oh, and that I smile a lot. But you can decide that for yourself.
