About Paul Cummins

IMG_6529Hello, and welcome to my website.

Surveys tell us that about half the people in England now have no religious beliefs, so it is no surprise that many people now prefer to hold non-religious funerals for their loved ones.

I think that, like many of us, I’ve been a Humanist long before I discovered what the word meant. Humanists believe that we can live a good, positive, ethical life without religion or supernatural beliefs, and so, it is a philosophy based on reason, and our common humanity. Don’t worry, you don’t have to consider yourself to be a “humanist” to arrange a non-religious funeral.

I conduct all types of funerals, whether it’s a cremation, a burial in a town cemetery, or in a woodland burial ground.

A non-religious funeral allows us to concentrate on the person we have lost, and to mark their passing with a ceremony that truly reflects how they chose to live their life. I’ll meet with you and learn about the person who has died, to ensure that the ceremony tells the story of the life that your loved one actually lived. I encourage you to choose the music, poetry, and prose that reflects their tastes, their experiences, and their contribution to the lives of those around them. I can make suggestions and help you choose pieces that feel right for you.

Of course, some of the people who attend a non-religious funeral have their own beliefs, and so, if you choose, we can include time for quiet reflection following the tribute. Those with religious beliefs are then welcome to use this time for silent prayer.

There is no such thing as an ordinary person, or an ordinary life, and so every funeral should be unique to the person that has died. By involving yourself in the creation of the funeral that your loved one would have wanted, it is possible to make a ceremony that is, not only meaningful and relevant, but one that can be turned into a positive experience.

It isn’t unusual for a person to decide on the detail of their own funeral, a long time in advance of it being a reality. Please get in touch if you would like me to help you with this.

I conduct Humanist Funerals in Leeds, and the surrounding areas, although I am willing to travel where practical.

I’d be happy to hear from you to discuss what you think you might need, or just to give you more information.
