Namings
Naming ceremonies are a lovely way to welcome a new member of your family or acknowledge a change in circumstance, both as an opportunity to mark the occasion but also to have a party! I will write something that is just for you, and the ceremony can be as formal or informal as you like, wherever you like, and involving as many people as you want.
‘Rachel’s assured tone and very friendly approach resulted in a warm and caring ceremony’
What happens in a naming ceremony
You can make your ceremony whatever you want it to be! There’s lots of information about humanist naming ceremonies here, including a video, but here’s what you might want to include:
- Reasons for choosing the name
- Promises to the child, from parents, grandparents, guide-parents, or anyone else…
- Readings or music that have meaning to you, or to create a particular atmosphere
- Symbolic gestures – you might want to plant a tree or invite guests to write in an album for example
- Cake for afterwards – that ever-popular symbol of celebration!
I can help with all of these, including suggestions and examples, and will turn whatever you choose into a ceremony to suit you. Be as imaginative as you dare!
‘Thank you Rachel for the most amazing naming ceremony for our dear little person. You made the day so special. We are truly grateful for your time and patience’
Working with me
Here’s what happens:
- We speak on the phone or email to discuss dates and availability. If we agree to go ahead…
- We meet properly (somewhere that suits you) to discuss the ceremony, including suggestions for readings and all the nitty-gritty of who/how/where etc. This might take about an hour or so.
- I write a draft ceremony and send it to you for approval/changes/corrections
- Once it is all agreed I produce a final draft and lead the ceremony on the day
- You get a copy to keep as a reminder
Cost:
I charge £250 per ceremony, which includes all of the steps above and travel within a certain limit. Travel above that limit or further meetings will cost a bit more, but I would discuss that with you in advance so you know what to expect. Fees are due ideally at the point of booking, but you could also pay a deposit of £100 on booking with the remainder due two weeks before the ceremony.
If you want to find out more, or book a ceremony, please do get in touch.
