About Richard Martin

What I Offer

Most people choose a Humanist Ceremony because they want something unique and special, without religion! Everyone is different and so is every ceremony.

I’ll work with you to create a bespoke ceremony, which you can make as traditional, informal, fun or creative as you like. This will be delivered in a highly professional manner, to make a day that is both inclusive and personalised.

What I Enjoy About Being a Celebrant

For one moment in time I have the privilege of becoming part of other people’s lives, whether that moment succeeds in making you laugh, cry, clap or sing, above all it’s a time for everyone present to share and be a part of.

Who Am I?

I am a Humanist, non-religious Funeral and Wedding & Partnership Ceremonies Celebrant, happily living in Weston super Mare, taking Humanist and non-religious Ceremonies throughout Somerset & the South West.

My Background

I come from a military background and during my 24 years in the Royal Marines I witnessed some very altruistic acts between comrades in arms. I was also aware how these deeds were being diminished the moment the padre and religion were involved; because now that selfless act had somehow been ‘helped’ along by supernatural intervention, indeed we then found ourselves ‘praising’ this unseen deity for its actions!  It was due to this that I began questioning my ‘inherited’ faith, a path which led me to the Humanists and also the Defence Humanists.

I became aware of the Humanist Celebrants network, firstly at the funeral of a work colleague and then again when I heard an interview on the local radio. It really was a light bulb moment for me. Within a few months I had applied for training, was accepted and I haven’t looked back since.
