Weddings
Your wedding will be one of the most important days in your life, and so it should be exactly as you want it to be, special and unique to you. I will help you to create your perfect wedding ceremony and deliver it for you in a professional and friendly style.
What I will do for you:
I will discuss ideas with you and advise you on the content of your ceremony. A humanist ceremony does not have any religious content, but can include anything else that you would find in a traditional wedding. You may want to include vows or affirmations, certificate signing, music, singing, readings, poetry, or symbolism such as ring exchange, hand fasting or candle lighting. There are lots of possibilities! Based on what you tell me I will write your ceremony script and agree the final version with you. I will conduct a rehearsal at the venue and of course your actual ceremony. I will provide you with a keepsake copy of your wedding script.
Because humanist weddings are not legally recognised they don’t have to take place in licensed premises. This means you can hold your ceremony anywhere, as long as it is safe! You may like an outdoor ceremony in a favourite garden, woodland, or on a beach. Or you could choose an indoor venue that is special to you, a favourite hotel, a historic site such as a castle, or even your own home.
My fee includes:
- An initial meeting for us to get to know each other. This will give you the chance to decide whether I am the right celebrant for you and enable me to understand your requirements
- Advice on the structure and content of your ceremony including readings, music, symbolism
- Drafting your ceremony script and finalising it in discussion with you
- Conducting a rehearsal at your chosen venue
- Conducting the ceremony on your wedding day
- Providing you with a presentation copy of your script
- Providing a certificate of your humanist wedding if you choose to have one
- Travel within a 30 mile radius of my home
My fee is typically around £500.
Registering your marriage:
Humanist weddings have been legal in Scotland since 2006 but unfortunately they are not yet legal in the rest of the UK. Hopefully this will change soon. If you wish to have your marriage legally recognised you will therefore have to arrange this with a registrar. Many people have a short civil ceremony in their local register office but regard their humanist ceremony as the main event.

I look forward to hearing from you.
