Creating the perfect Humanist Naming ceremony

Working together to create the perfect naming ceremony

The family visit

When you decide you’d like to go ahead with your humanist naming ceremony, one of your first tasks will be to fix a date.  So that there’s plenty of time to invite your guests, a minimum of 8 weeks is usually ideal.

Next – we’ll need a meeting.  With four chidren of my own, I know what young parenthood is like.  Your life is turned upside down.  So I’ll do whatever I can to visit on a day and at a time that suits you – this could be at the weekend or in the evening – maybe after bedtime.  The choice is yours.

We’ll take as long as you need to discuss the kind of naming ceremony you’d like.  We’ll discuss

  • Music choices
  • Readings
  • Parent or Guideparent ‘promises’
  • Rituals – tree planting, candle-lighting etc

Writing the script

That’s a big part of my job!

In the days following our meeting, I’ll write up the script, taking into account all your wishes.  Then I’ll email it to you for you to check over and make amendments or additions.

On the day of your naming ceremony –

I’ll arrive early and make sure you have everything in place and that everyone is relaxed and happy about the role they might play.  Then, we’ll carry out the ceremony in an atmosphere that’s relaxed and enjoyable for everyone!

After the ceremony –

I’ll give you  a beautifully presented copy of the tribute and a Naming Certificate – two mementos to help you remember forever your family’s special day.
