Funerals

Even in the sadness of death we can acknowledge the joy that someone has brought into our life.

The person who has died is at the centre of a Humanist Funeral. My task is to reflect the life and capture the essence of the person in a way that feels inclusive and real to everybody present.

Did you know that you can have a ceremony in a place that is appropriate and comfortable for you? In the case of cremation, it is possible to have a short ceremony at your local crematorium either before or after a Celebration of Life in premises that you find more congenial. This is also the case with burials. Funeral ceremonies can be held in pubs and hotels, community centres, marquee in a garden, woodlands and the front room of a family house.

The time spent with a family learning about the person they have lost is a rich and humbling experience; it’s interesting that people rarely talk about the person they’ve lost in terms of how much money they made or how successful they were in their career; it’s more about love really.

Professional from start to finish! Andrew spent a few hours with our family listening to talk of our Father, there were tears and smiles, but he never rushed us. He shared the full written service with us a few days later and we were impressed that he had captured so much of what we talked about and wrote this into a beautiful, personal service which was ultimately delivered in the most professional, caring and eloquent manner. Many who attended the service commented on what a lovely service it really was. Our family would not hesitate to recommend Andrew to others. LR

Thank you again for handling things with warmth and humour. AC
