Naming ceremonies are a beautiful way to introduce a new member of your family to your wider family and friends, and declare commitments for your role in their life, happiness and future. Usually this will be a new baby or a toddler, but perhaps you have adopted a child, or have a family member who now goes by a different name or gender. Celebrate them with your family and most valued friends, their extended network of comfort, inspiration, education and support. Some people may agree to play an extra special role in their life, as ‘guide parents’, which is also worth celebrating.
Humanist ceremonies can be held at any place of your choosing: outdoors in the woods, on a beach, or indoors at home, at a pub, or hotel. I will help you design the style, format, readings, music, and usually a symbolic gesture to mark the moment and memory. Ceremonies usually last 20 – 30 poignant, emotional minutes. Each script is unique and written according to your story. I will work with you to describe what your child means to you, what they are like, and your hopes and aspirations for their future. Your ceremony will be meaningful, enjoyable, and memorable, and you will also receive a keepsake copy of the script for posterity.
I live in Northumberland: I would be delighted to develop a unique, personal and beautiful naming ceremony, to take place in this lovely county, and also other counties (and countries) too.
