About David Newton
I am a humanist celebrant and take funeral services in Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. As a humanist I see everyone as an individual with unique qualities in their life and relationships. This makes everyone quite special in their own way and worthy of respect.
I was born in a village near Edinburgh in 1948. I have lived in Godmanchester in Cambridgeshire for thirty years. I worked in a children’s charity before I became interested in becoming a celebrant when I was asked to speak on behalf of my family to pay tribute to our parents when they had died.
I found that in the midst of the sadness of loss, and the finality of death there was much to recall and to celebrate. The process of recollection and reliving memories of happier times brought its own comfort and helped shape the uniquely personal and special form of the ceremony.
I feel particularly privileged to be invited to work with a family to help them plan a funeral ceremony. Although I can guide and support everyone through the process of planning a ceremony and drafting a tribute, I am also able to follow the wishes and plans of family members with their ideas what should be included in the ceremony. I dedicate my efforts to ensure that we have a ceremony that everyone feels is “right” and that the ceremony is conducted in a way that reflects their wishes.
