Funerals

Saying goodbye to someone you love is so terribly hard. A humanist funeral or memorial service can be a deeply moving celebration of an individual’s life. I will work with you to create a dignified and meaningful ceremony. This will be a reflection of your loved one’s life and also right for you and your family. I have a background in Social Work and many years experience of working with older people and their families.

Recent reviews and feedback following ceremonies –

‘Debbie was very helpful and caring and the service went exactly as I wanted it.  Thank you Debbie’

‘We were unable to meet Debbie face-to-face prior to the service but we spoke on the telephone and online. Throughout she was professional, friendly and compassionate. Her advice and guidance made the process much more bearable. In conducting the service, she was superb and , although she had not previously met the deceased – or any of her family – it felt as though she knew everyone there.’

‘Thank you so very much for doing such a wonderful job of delivering Mums funeral service last week. Several people, who were there in person, or watching via the webcast, agreed with me, that the service captured Mum perfectly.  Your delivery was warm and friendly and we all felt that you were chatting to us about Mum, rather than just reading notes about her. There were both tears and laughter, so you got it ‘spot on’!! Thank you so much again’. S and family.

‘Quite simply a perfectly personal celebration of my late Mum’s life and passing! Debbie made us feel very much at ease and without time pressure to meet beforehand and discuss my Mum’s life, she guided us as to music choices and how the service would run. On the day Debbie was punctual, well presented, spoke with a professional tone but was endearing too. Debbie didn’t rush off afterwards but waited, allowing us as much time as we needed on a difficult day. My family I cannot thank Debbie enough for a wonderful tribute’.

‘Everyone that attended my Mothers funeral said to me what a wonderful send off for your Mum, it would have been just what your Mum would have wanted. However I have to say none of it would have been possible without the right person to lead it. Debbie Martin came to my home in order to get details of my Mothers life, she was polite, respectful and above all very easy to talk to at such a difficult time and listened to us with the sole intention to make my mothers ceremony as perfect as possible and she did exactly that. If anyone is thinking of a Humanist Ceremony I personally would recommend this thoughtful, caring Lady. She made each and everyone of us feel at peace with the situation. Once again Thank you Debbie Martin for your compassion and thoughtfulness’. Adrian and family

‘Debbie carried out the service for my Fathers funeral. She worked with the whole family at a very emotional time and put together a beautiful service that I will always remember. Debbie puts a lot of heart and time into what she does and it really shows’.  Ashley

‘My Brother and I would like to  thank you for the professional and sensitive way you conducted my Fathers funeral last Tuesday and also the support you gave to our family during this difficult time. Many, many thanks Clive’.

‘… thank you again for leading my father’s ceremony yesterday. It was delivered with just the right tone and made it a respectful, heartfelt and dignified send off’. Adam

‘Thank you so much for the wonderful support you gave us and the lovely tribute to Nancy. It was very healing….  We will keep spreading the word that Humanists UK can provide a perfectly wonderful service. Best wishes M & C’

‘Can I, on behalf of all of us, thank you for Friday, & all the preparatory work you put in to ensure the Service was so appropriate for Betty, so helping make the day so lovely. I think I rather cheekily asked you when we first spoke ‘why did we need you?’. You demonstrated many times over why in fact we did need you. Many thanks again’. Julian
