Jackie Easter -Humanist Celebrant

Non religious funerals in Hertfordshire

I’m Jackie Easter and I am accredited by Humanists UK to conduct funeral ceremonies.  You don’t need to be a Humanist to have a Humanist funeral – it is simply a non-religious ceremony that celebrates the person’s life and their importance to those that mourn their loss. If you would like me to conduct a funeral , I will work closely with you to ensure that the service is focused on the life of the person whose funeral you are arranging.  It will be a unique and special  tribute to the person who has died .

I have been non-religious all my life but I became interested in becoming a celebrant after I attended my first Humanist funeral. It was such a positive celebration of my uncle’s life that, despite great sadness, there was humour and joy, and this helped our family through the grief that we felt.  I was inspired to find out more about Humanism and in 2016  I decided to train as a celebrant, following a long career as an English teacher .

I want to help people without religious faith to mark this final part of a life story in a positive and meaningful way.  I believe that the ceremony should  be an occasion for family, friends and colleagues to focus on the person they knew and to celebrate their qualities and achievements and to share memories.

I will meet with you to find out what you would like to include and together we will plan a ceremony that captures the uniqueness of the individual. You may already have made choices about music, poetry and readings but if not, I can help you with this. Friends and family may want to read something and are very welcome to participate. You will find me a good listener and I will be able to take what you tell me and prepare a ceremony that marks the death of your loved one in a personalized, positive and sensitive way.  Whilst the ceremony can be as formal or informal as you would like,  it will always respectful and dignified.

It is a great privilege to be able to work with a family and help them with the process of coming to terms with their loss by ensuring that this last rite of passage is personal, appropriate , unique and memorable.
