My name is Joanne Seacombe. I am a married mother of three children, and I live in the Staffordshire village of Tutbury. I am hugely experienced in conducting Funerals, Weddings and Baby Naming Ceremonies with over ten years’ experience. I regularly conduct ceremonies in Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire, and I am happy to travel.
What does Humanism mean to me? It is about acknowledging and celebrating the one life that we have and appreciating the natural world that we live in. Conducting one’s self in a way that has a positive effect on others and striving to always help others and promote Humanists UK by always doing what is morally right.
My first experience of Humanists UK was in 2004 at my Grandfathers funeral ceremony. Being that he wasn’t a religious man, my family had taken the decision that a Humanist Funeral Ceremony would be the best and most meaningful way of saying goodbye to him and celebrating his memory.
I was amazed at how personal the ceremony was and how the celebrant conducted it and himself throughout. At what was a very emotional time for us all, as a family we were grateful because we were able to say goodbye to him in a way that honoured his memory for the great person that he was.
That was when I decided becoming a Celebrant and helping others is what I wanted to do. I drew on my wealth of experience in Customer Services, Management, and communication and made that the basis of how I wanted to help families and couples at various landmark events throughout their lives.
Being able to listen to what families want and then translate that into a meaningful ceremony is key to my work with Humanists UK. I make it my number one priority to listen, take note of what families want, help them when unsure of decisions and involve them as much as possible. By following these steps, I am able to build and deliver ceremonies that are meaningful and respectful but most importantly are what the families or couples want.
I feel extremely blessed to be in a position where I can guide and support people through key events in their lives, knowing that I have made their journeys easier for them. With the support of Humanists UK, I will endeavour to continue my work and supporting others all that I can.
