“What religion are we?” I asked my parents when I was a mere pup.

“C of E” was the reply.

I had no idea what that meant…

It was a response that I imagine many families similar to mine in the 70s and 80s gave when asked. Forms always asked for your religion and the only one you could pick if you had none was C of E. And then many years later I discovered Humanism…

I feel that I have always been non-religious, bar the pre-teen foray into Sunday School, and the prayers and hymns at school, during assembly. I do still look back with fondness at those times at school, sitting cross-legged on the floor, singing (melodically, I am sure) the words to All Things Bright And Beautiful that were displayed on the wall from the overhead projector!

I am happy being a Humanist, and sharing thoughts, ideas and feelings with those with a similar outlook, and indeed, those with differing beliefs and ideologies. People are so interesting, aren’t they?

Believing I have this one and only life, it is down to me to make it an exceptionally good one! I consider all sentient beings to be valuable and meaningful, and Humanism supports my own thoughts on life and death, science and education, community, diversity and culture.

I am lucky to live in the beautiful but disappearing North Norfolk coast, being battered daily by the North Sea, causing erosion seen at many of our coastal villages around the country. But, it is still stunning, breathtaking even, and I am investing in the community around us as much as possible. Living here with my civil partner and two rescue dogs, Valerie and Gregory, I could not ask for better surroundings to experience and fulfil this one life.

Please get in touch if you think I can help.
