About me

Hello! I’m Karen and I am a Manningtree-based Humanist celebrant, accredited for naming and welcoming ceremonies, working across North Essex and Suffolk.

I have lived in North East Essex all my life, working in marketing in different industries and, in recent years in economic development in local government. Over the years my work has led me to meet many inspiring people from all walks of life which I continue to find hugely enjoyable.

I came to Humanism over 25 years ago. But it was a colleague’s Humanist funeral in 2015 that got me thinking. That authentic and very memorable celebration of his life weighed anchor in my mind and I began to wonder how I might make a difference by becoming a celebrant myself. My four nieces, aged teens to 40s, are great fun, and this helped me decide to train to become a naming and welcoming celebrant.

My passion for landscapes is indulged on regular walks with my husband, family and friends, together with our newest addition: Ned, a Parson Russell terrier cross. Once a year that indulgence becomes a little more adventurous as I join a group of friends to ski in the mountains in France.

I would love to work with you and would consider it a privilege to create a meaningful and memorable naming or welcoming ceremony for your family.  The ‘Namings & Welcomings’ tab above has all the details about how it works and you can check out what people say about them in the ‘What People Say’ tab above.

Why not take a look at this short video as an example, to see and hear me and get to know me a little better?

With best wishes,

Karen
