Katharine Ellis

Hello and welcome. My name is Katharine Ellis, and being a celebrant is my passion. In 2016 I was asked to be the celebrant at a friend’s Blessing. At the time I had no formal training however, the couple involved had both witnessed my presenting in front of large audiences and one of them had also experienced my life coaching. My coaching skills enabled me to get clear about what they both wanted and together with my own research on Humanist Wedding Ceremonies I wrote up a ceremony for them. It was an awesome responsibility and a privilege to be asked and not one I took on lightly. We worked together to create the ceremony they wanted.

It was a magical day.

Katharine was our celebrant in August 2016. She really got to know both of us leading up to the ceremony and spent time finding out how our journey finally led us to each other.

She brought something very special to the ceremony and delivered her words with such emotion and clarity to make it the day we had wished for.We had so many comments after the ceremony saying how special her words were. There wasn’t a dry eye in the garden where we had the ceremony.

Humanist weddings are wonderful. Everyone is different. Each celebration is unique. As a fully trained celebrant getting to know couples and creating a tailored, customised ceremony especially for them is the core of what I do.

The aim of a humanist ceremony is to support the couple in deciding how they are going to celebrate or commemorate their wedding–where and what form it will take, often writing their own words, choosing the music that they feel is appropriate and personalizing the ceremony in accordance with the wishes of those present. The principles in a humanist ceremony are freedom to choose, equality, and shared human values.

About me

I live in the beautiful and historic city of Cambridge. It’s a place of bikes, students, innovation, and intrigue. I love it! That said I am happy to travel to bordering counties:- Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Lincolnshire,  any other shire or tropical island in support of your ceremony.

Being an outdoorsy type, ceremonies with an outside element are particularly enjoyable.

The thing that resonates with us both is that when Katharine spoke not only was there such warmth in her tone of voice, but also it was an outdoor ceremony and everyone could clearly hear what she was saying and the sincerity of the words that were spoken.
