Namings
“Names are the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”
— W.H. Auden
The names that have special meaning for us are the names of the people we love most.
Think of the care you took choosing your child’s name & how important it felt to get it right. Now you are watching them breathe life into their name developing their own wonderful sense of meaning and purpose.
Celebrating your child’s arrival into the world and into your family is special. Perhaps they are joining a sister or brother or they are the start of your hoped-for perfect family. Perhaps you didn’t get round to a Naming first time around so you want to share a ceremony between both or all your children now.
When it has been a difficult process to bring a child into your world, a Naming is not just a proclamation of joy but also of their safe arrival. It provides a firm foundation and a way of affirming their place in your lives and the lives of your family.
Maybe you are bringing two families together and you want to show your children your commitment to their future or you are adopting a child and this is the time to embrace them into your family.
Naming ceremonies are also good fun, a chance to create personalised symbolic actions for your child. They are fabulous days out for the wider family to celebrate, to create memories, keepsakes and mementos. Inside, outside – anything is possible.
A naming is easy to put off but the pleasure and sense of stability you will install in your child is surprisingly profound and joyous. If you are thinking about a naming ceremony but want to know more about it don’t hesitate to give me a ring. I know it is important to find the right person– an initial call does not bind you to anything.
Here is how it works:
- Phone Call
- Initial Meeting – in person or zoom
- An Agreement and 1/3 deposit
- Second meeting to plan the ceremony
- Drafting the ceremony
- Agreeing the ceremony
- Final payment
- The BIG DAY!
