About Maddie Smith
Hello, and welcome to my website. I am Maddie Smith, a celebrant accredited by Humanist ceremonies. I have spent my working life in healthcare, and my experiences in life have led me to believe that every moment of our lives, good or bad, should be cherished, and those special occasions which we value most should be celebrated. How we do that varies depending upon our individual needs, and my aim is to help you plan an occasion which fulfils your wishes. I currently solely conduct Naming ceremonies, but there is no “standard” ceremony, as this will be created to reflect what you feel is right for you, either in a formal, or more relaxed setting. My aim is to work with you to be as relaxed as you wish, and importantly, reduce any stress to a minimum!
As a Humanist, I hold no religious beliefs, preferring to try to live my life treating others as I would wish to be treated myself, with tolerance, respect and kindness. I enjoy an active life with my family, friends, and menagerie, with all the joys and frustrations which that involves. I also have a variety of hobbies and pastimes.
Ceremonies can be for one or more babies, a child or children being adopted, or to recognise the formation of a new family.
What happens next? If you like my approach to life and feel that I would deliver the type of ceremony which would suit you, then we arrange to meet informally. We talk about the child or children to be named, people to be present, where, when and what sort of ceremony you would like and take it from there. As each one is unique, there is quite a bit of work involved. I therefore ask for a deposit when you agree to employ me. We work on the draft script, by email/ phone or meeting until it meets your expectations.
I will conduct the ceremony and prepare a presentation copy of the script for you to keep as a record of your special day.
You do not have to be a Humanist to enquire about a non-religious Naming ceremony, so please contact me to discuss your individual circumstances.
