About Margaret Mulholland

I retired from full time employment in 2018, having worked for the last 25 years within an educational setting.

I had always wanted to be more active within Humanism and before retiring, trained as a Celebrant and became an accredited Celebrant for Namings in 2018 and Funerals in 2019 and more recently Weddings.

Growing up, I identified as an atheist initially but finding Humanism I realised I was not alone but one of many, sharing common values. It felt like coming home!

“Humanism is a democratic and ethical life stance, which affirms that human beings have the right and responsibility to give meaning and shape to their own lives. It stands for the building of a more humane society through an ethic based on humans and other natural values in the spirit of reason and free enquiry through human capabilities. It is not theistic and it does not accept supernatural views of reality.”

I care passionately about our world and everyone in it- including all living things and try to live sustainably. It’s not for everyone but becoming a vegan was the right choice for me. I am currently fostering Bertie, the hedgehog who is too young and light to hibernate and will hopefully be able to return him to the wild in the Spring. (Bertie is now fully grown and roaming freely!)

I have a background in drama and I am an accomplished public speaker with good literary skills and I take real pleasure in creating unique celebrations especially for you and delivering them on the day.

It is a real privilege to have a part to play at significant time in a family’s life and this has given me a real sense of purpose in my own life and has reinforced my humanist beliefs.

                                                             Namings:

I charge £300 in total which includes meeting you and your family to establish exactly what you want and then writing and delivering your bespoke celebration on the day. I ask for a £50 non-refundable deposit to secure the date of your choice with the balance due the day before your Naming.

After the Naming I will leave you with a keepsake consisting of a personalised naming certificate and a copy of the script.

Funerals :

It may seem strange to describe these as celebrations but the focus is on celebrating the life of the deceased in a meaningful way.

I charge £200 to conduct a funeral, if you are using a funeral director they would normally deal with payment on your behalf. I would meet with you to establish what sort of ceremony you would be looking for and to build up a picture of your loved one and their life history before writing the ceremony. This would be shared with you before the funeral to ensure I accurately reflect your memories and feelings on the day. After the ceremony I would leave you with a copy of the script to keep.

I can also facilitate memorial services or help you to plan your own funeral, which more and more people are doing these days.

Weddings :

I  charge an all inclusive fee of £650 for ceremonies within a 30 mile radius (reasonable mileage charges apply outside this area) I will meet with you to discuss what you want on your special day, then write and deliver the ceremony of your dreams. My fee includes all meetings, a dress rehearsal if desired and a presentation copy of the script and a certificate.  The only limits are your own imaginations so let’s think outside the box together and celebrate your love your way!
