About
I have been a Humanist since I was a teenager, believing that we are responsible for developing our own moral code and living according to the golden rule: treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves.
I have always worked with people – in fact a whole range of people: with young people in a sexual health clinic, with people developing sexual health services overseas, with people with mental health challenges and, as a mediator, working with people in conflict. Whatever the setting I have enjoyed helping people to express what they are feeling and needing.
As well as being a funeral celebrant I am also now a Humanist member of the chaplaincy and pastoral care team at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
I now gain immense satisfaction from providing support, both practical and emotional, for people arranging a funeral. It is heart-warming getting to know people and about the loved one whose death they are mourning. Together we craft a funeral that is unique, with music, readings and tributes that capture the personality of the one who has died. These enrich the memories of those left behind. People find that this commemoration provides much comfort at a very difficult time.
To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die.
I live in Harpenden, Hertfordshire and am happy to travel anywhere in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex . I can undertake ceremonies at a crematorium, a burial site or any premises that you choose.
You can get in touch with me yourself or ask your funeral director to do this. I would be very happy to talk with you before you commit. I am in a team of celebrants and, if for any reason I cannot help you, I can put you in touch with one of my colleagues.
If you look at my next page you will find more about a Humanist funeral and how I would work with you.
