Namings

A Naming Ceremony is a lovely alternative or addition to a traditional christening. While a traditional christening welcomes a child into the church a humanist naming ceremony welcomes the child into the wider family and friends.

It can be done at a location of your choice and can include elements that ensure that grandparents, guide parents, godparents, aunts, uncles or whomever you wish can be involved in this special event.

There is usually some pledges from the guide parents (or godparents if you prefer). The guide parents can also make special commitments that are unique to them, their skills or personality – all with your permission off course.

Some people chose to light a candle to mark the occasion, others have some lovely certificates to present to the guide parents. The ceremony usually is brought to an end when we name the child alongside all those present. This is often a very touching moment. Whatever you chose to do, it will be unique and reflective of your own circumstances.
The ceremony is a joyous and relaxed atmosphere, usually with many other children around such as cousins and children of your friends. Having other children around certainly makes the event more vibrant.

When the ceremony comes to an end I will present the couple with a beautiful presentation version of the ceremony script, that they can keep to show the child in the future. This will include what was said on the day, the hopes, dreams and aspirations about your new beautiful baby.
