My name is Paul Pugh, and I am an accredited funeral celebrant conducting Humanist ceremonies in North London and surrounding areas.

Every person’s life deserves to be commemorated and honoured. My aim as a celebrant is for you to feel that the funeral was exactly right for the person whom you knew and loved. Each ceremony is unique and personal, written specially for that occasion. It is an opportunity to celebrate the life of the person, to pay tribute to their life, and to reflect those aspects of their life which are most important to their family and friends.

Throughout history we have always marked the most important stages in our lives with ceremonies or rituals, often as part of religious worship. Humanist ceremonies allow you to mark those key life events in a way which is personal and honest, and not bound by religious traditions.

Humanists believe that our time on earth is all that we have. It is given to us by good fortune, and we have choices about how we lead our lives.  The importance of our lives is in what we do in that span of time: the experiences that we have, the relationships that we build, and the love that we bring to others.

As your celebrant, I will work with you to agree the format and contents of the ceremony. I will discuss with family and friends which aspects of the person’s life you would like to see reflected in the ceremony.  That can include tributes from different contributors, or music, readings, or mementoes or objects which were meaningful in the person’s life. I will prepare the text of the tribute for you to consider before the ceremony; and I will provide a copy of the full script after the ceremony. Working with your funeral director, I will make sure on the day that the funeral ceremony is as you hoped and planned.

I had over 20 years’ experience as a senior manager in the public sector. Now I have chosen to work with people in a different way – helping to create a fitting ceremony for the person whom you have known and loved. I am proud to be one of more than 400 celebrants who are professionally trained and accredited by Humanists UK.
