About Roland Baskeyfield
I’m Roland, a Humanist Celebrant, trained and accredited by Humanists UK. I perform Humanist and non-religious funerals and memorial ceremonies. I generally work with families across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and adjoining counties, but I am happy to travel further afield.
Now more than ever, there is a greater calling for Humanist and non-religious funerals and I am committed to working with you to prepare a unique, fitting and meaningful ceremony to help you mark and celebrate the life of your loved one.
Having had a non-religious upbringing myself, I have always felt at home with the idea that this life is the only life we have. A chance encounter with a local Humanist Celebrant some years ago meant that when the time came, I knew where to seek guidance and support for my family in terms of the preparation and performance of funerals. This has subsequently led to a good friendship, broadened my outlook, plus a solid introduction to Humanism. Being moved by the poignancy and experience of these funerals, I recognised in myself that I too would like to be able help other families in a similar way. Some thinking and research later, I embarked upon training to become a Humanist Celebrant.
By way of background, I graduated with a degree in Management, subsequently a Masters in Human Resource Management from Leeds University and I am a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD. Working within HR for many years has helped me appreciate the relevance of our lives, having empathy for others, based on valuing and understanding the unique contribution everyone makes on their life journey.
Home is Chorlton-cum-Hardy, South Manchester, where I live with my husband, Páll. We’re lucky to have immediate family and friends closeby, plus a little further afield in Iceland and The Netherlands too.
