It seems that as a society we are gradually becoming more open to discussions around death and dying. This has led to more people starting to think about their own funerals and the way in which they would like the ceremony to be organised. This service allows you to discuss your funeral wishes with me and to have them recorded and stored securely.  This can provide you with the reassurance that your wishes are known. Having this information available to your family and friends can greatly assist them in dealing with your funeral arrangements at an emotional time, as your wishes will be clear to them.  Families will often say how comforting it is to have this information available.

Our meeting will provide the opportunity for you to talk about the type of funeral that you would like – cremation or burial,  any specific wishes regarding music, readings or poetry and any other relevant issues.  You can provide biographical information which will assist whoever will write the tribute.  Any notes or a full script can be kept safely by Humanist UK and be accessed when necessary.  If, for whatever reason, I am unable to conduct the ceremony then it can be delivered by another trained Humanist celebrant from the network.

It is important to stress that this service is for ‘planning’ and your funeral will still by organised by your family/friends; however they will be greatly helped by having a record of your wishes to help them give you the funeral that you would want.

Fees will be dependent on the nature of the service provided and the circumstances surrounding it.  All costs will be fully discussed with you at the time of enquiry.

Initial enquiry – discussion by phone or email is free.

Consultation – a meeting either face-to-face or remotely to discuss and record your wishes will cost approximately £50

Preparing a draft ceremony – creating a script based on the available information  –  around £120

Delivery -retrieving the script and reviewing with the family, updating where necessary – currently £225 ( any previous fees will be deducted from this amount).
