About Sara Scott
I live in the Yorkshire Wolds between Driffield and York and offer funerals and memorial ceremonies across the East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull and the Yorkshire coast. I also offer on-line ceremonies for any area.
Humanist funerals bring people together to mourn the loss of someone they have loved but also to honour and celebrate the life they have lived. They are warm, personal ceremonies that pay tribute to who someone has been, the things that mattered most to them and what they have meant to others. You don’t need to be a humanist to have a humanist funeral – they are appropriate for anyone without strong religious beliefs, and for those wanting a service that is focused on the person who has died and which is welcoming and inclusive for everyone there.
I have spent most of my career in social research: listening to people and capturing the stories of their lives. I have lived, worked and volunteered with people from many different backgrounds and in recent years have run my own research business. My experience has helped me develop some important skills for being a funeral celebrant – I am well organised, a good communicator and a calm, reliable ‘safe pair of hands’ for you to rely on at this difficult time.
I live in rural Yorkshire with my partner Diana. We are fortunate to enjoy a good life near to open countryside where we enjoy walking with our dog. But like most people we’ve had losses in our lives. And I know that when you lose someone close to you, you want a funeral ceremony that is true to them. This doesn’t always happen, particularly if someone has lived a life that was different to the ‘norm’, or if they were gay or lesbian. I became a humanist celebrant because I want to facilitate funerals that genuinely reflect the life led and are meaningful to those left behind. I aim to lead funerals and memorial services that highlight the love, work and joy of a life and enable friends and family to play as full a part in planning and delivering ceremonies as they wish.
