A celebration of a life

When I help a family to produce and deliver a funeral ceremony, I always remember the real purpose of the event. The funeral is there to help people. It isn’t just something we do because it is the usual process. This public celebration of a life can be a powerful way of allowing us to move forward with acceptance and hope for the future.

When we acknowledge our loss in a public act of mourning, we are engaging with our community. Barriers and awkwardness melt away as family and friends become a support group. Truly celebrating a life, and saying a personal farewell, can be a transformational experience. Some people describe this as “closure” but I prefer to think of it as “putting the book on the shelf”. The book of memories will be there whenever we want. The legacy of relationships and experiences will be with us always. Having shown our respect and expressed our love, we can put the book somewhere nearby where it will be treasured. We can look forward and move forward.

We will meet and talk about the deceased and what might be the right ceremony. You can choose whatever music, poetry and readings you like. The major part of most funerals is the tribute to the deceased. This is the part where we talk about their life, loves, achievements, legacy and what they meant to us. When we first meet I will help you talk about all those things and I will write a fitting tribute to read at the funeral.

My role as a celebrant is to help you through this time with compassion and sensitivity.  We will create a funeral together that is dignified, and a fitting celebration of a life.

I deliver funerals and memorials throughout North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and West Lincolnshire.

If you would like to talk about a funeral ceremony, either for a loved one or even to pre-plan what you might like for your own service, please get in touch. I am happy to answer any questions you may have without obligation.
