Namings

I am delighted to offer non-religious, inclusive naming ceremonies for all sorts of family groups.

Baby naming ceremonies – and other naming ceremonies – are fun affairs. They bring family and friends together to celebrate the arrival of a new addition to the family: a baby, an older child or children, or maybe someone transitioning to a new gender.

Naming ceremonies focus on the person or people being welcomed;  often, all those present – parents and godparents (or guideparents), grandparents, siblings and friends – pledge to support them in their lives and ambitions. Namings can be combined with another celebration, for example a birthday, as in the photo below.

They can be held anywhere, indoors or outdoors, in hired venues or the family home, whatever suits you and your guests.

I will work with you to craft a unique ceremony for your particular needs. I will help you choose any readings, symbolic gestures or music that would be perfect for you.

I’ll draft a script for your approval and then deliver it on the day, giving you a Presentation Script to keep afterwards as a reminder of the special rite of passage you have celebrated.

To see how wonderful a humanist naming ceremony can be, take a moment to watch this.

Feel free to contact me to discuss your needs and check availability.

Fees

Fees are flexible, depending on the length of the ceremony and travel times. There is no charge for the initial discussion.

Testimonials

Brigid’s script had both light and shade. She has a warm and friendly tone and a winning smile. Everyone loved the ceremony and felt included.

We really enjoyed the ceremony today. It was a lovely summing up of our family situation and felt so inclusive. Brigid’s delivery was perfectly paced, funny at times but also serious.

Thank you Brigid for making today so special. It felt so unique and personal and everyone had a really good time.
