Weddings

humanist-wedding-silverholmeGetting married is a very special time in your life.  Your wedding ceremony is an integral part of your celebrations and it is important that it enables you to celebrate your marriage in the way that you wish.

A Humanist Wedding Ceremony is non-religious and offers you the opportunity to celebrate your relationship in a personal and unique way.  Each ceremony is written individually so it conveys what is important to you, expressing your life and values.

This can include telling your story as a couple as well as reflecting the significance of the venue and the people present.

I have been conducting humanist weddings for the last eleven years and, as well as being an accredited celebrant with Humanists UK, hold a Summer Mountain Leadership Award and have experience of working in the outdoors.  I have conducted ceremonies in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor settings which have included many local hotels as well as family homes and gardens.

I will work with you to create your own unique wedding ceremony.  There is no set format and you can choose the words, readings and music, including writing your own vows.  The only guideline is that there is no religious content such as prayers or hymns.  However, you can include a moment of quiet reflection during the ceremony to enable guests with a religious belief to have a silent prayer if they wish.

At present Humanist Wedding Ceremonies are not legally recognised in England, therefore you also need to attend a Register Office, sometime before or after your humanist ceremony, to deal with the legal formalities and obtain a civil marriage certificate. This then gives you the freedom to hold your ceremony where you wish.

”Humanists believe that marriage is between two equals

which is embodied by Albert Camus in his quote:

‘Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead.

Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow.

Just walk beside me and be my friend forever.’’
