Weddings, wedding affirmations and partnerships

“Helen has fantastic ideas with regard to metaphor and symbolic gestures.”

Humanist ceremonies allow any couple who wish to commit to each other publicly, to create a uniquely personal, meaningful wedding or vow renewal ceremony, reflecting who you are and celebrating an important moment in the one life we have.

With many couples’ wedding plans disrupted by the pandemic, some are choosing to hold a wedding, wedding affirmation or partnership ceremony either before or after a legal one – sometimes quite a long time in either direction. Sharing such important choices and commitments can seal them for many people and I am delighted to help in such circumstances.

While I have lots of ideas to share, I don’t come with a fixed idea about what your ceremony should be like. Instead, I seek to work with you to create the occasion that’s right for you both. So every ceremony is tailor-made specifically for you, to reflect your values, wishes and personalities. My role is to find the best way to make your plans work for you, though if you’re stuck for words or ideas, I can help you to create a ceremony to remember. Of course, if all you’re sure of is that you don’t want a traditional ceremony, I can work with you to create one that is fresh and memorable, reflecting your experiences and hopes. You can choose poetry, music or readings, old or new symbolic gestures, individual or traditional vows – or something completely different.

Humanist ceremonies are for everyone who wants one. All couples – young or old, divorced or civil partners, first-time brides and grooms or those wanting to renew their vows, same-sex or straight – have reasons to celebrate love in their lives; this is why I enjoy working with people who choose to mark and share their commitment in a unique way. Whether you want a private, simple ceremony, or a sparkling extravaganza with everyone you know, indoors or outdoors,  it will be my privilege to work with you.

I love to work with my friend and collaborator, the talented photographer Liz Vaz of LizVazPhotography, to record those unique moments that make each ceremony memorable and preserve otherwise unnoticed moments for the future.
