A little more information and the answers to some frequently asked questions
You are thinking about a Humanist ceremony, and so you might wonder how the process works, you’re not alone, many people have similar frequently asked questions. Below are the ones that come up all the time.
How does it work?
When you first contact me, we will arrange a meeting, either in person or on zoom. It’s a chance to get to know each other a little better and see if we “click”.
We might not be the best fit and that’s ok, there’s no obligation, but I will talk you through how things work and help you make a decision.
If you do want to book me there are a few simple steps.
To confirm the booking I require a 25% deposit with the rest payable no later than 7 days before the ceremony.
How much does it cost?
Prices vary depending on how much you’ll want me to do and whether there is travel involved. Packages start at £900 for weekends (Thurs to Sun). And from £750 for weekdays (Mon to Wed)
What does that include?
The cost includes the time spent with you on our meetings, initial contact, a meeting to establish you’d like to hire me and then the follow-up meeting ahead of the ceremony which we’ll do in person. If necessary we can meet on more than one occasion, it depends on the planning required.
It includes writing (and re-writing with notes from you) the script. I can help with suggestions for music and readings, any symbolic actions or unique moments you wish to include. I can help you make it your own.
The cost also includes a rehearsal, the day before if you wish to have one and then my presence on the day of the ceremony, including the calming of nerves, handkerchiefs are also provided. No wedding ceremony is complete without a few happy tears!
What if I (the celebrant) is sick or unable to conduct the ceremony?
The wonderful thing about being part of the Humanist UK society is that there are lots of expertly trained fellow celebrants, one of whom would be able to step in at the last minute, if needed.
My family is religious – will they be comfortable at the wedding?
Humanist ceremonies should be inclusive and therefore anyone of any faith, or none should feel comfortable and involved at the wedding. If there is a particular concern regarding family religious beliefs, we can discuss that at our first meeting.
How much time will you spend at our wedding?
I only do one wedding per day, so my focus on that day is your ceremony. I’ll arrive an hour before to make sure that everything is set up and ready. I can answer any last-minute questions or make any final tweaks to the ceremony.
I’ll be there to reassure you at what can be a nerve-wracking time. And once the ceremony is over, I’ll be on my way, leaving you and your family and friends to enjoy the celebrations.
