During my time as a celebrant I have worked closely with some wonderful families, helping them say their final farewells to their loved ones. We have worked together to ensure that the ceremony is unique and meaningful, and does justice to the person whose life is being celebrated.

Dear Quentin,

I am writing to you to thank you for the effort you placed upon getting the service for my Dad right.

You spent time with our family understanding his character and the way that would best represent and celebrate his life. You showed compassion to my Mum in her time of grief, recognising her loss with great empathy.

Many of the family had religious beliefs however my Dad would not uphold these. Initially there was upset that we had decided to engage with a humanist rather than a religious leader.

The service you presented considered these family members with the inclusion of a hymn and time to reflect on his life. Most importantly of all it represented my Dad’s views and the outcome was that everyone was in awe of the service and fully appreciated the humanist concept as being more in keeping with my Dad’s views.

The service was a beautiful celebration of his life. It was witty, but honourable. Your story telling and the pace at which you conducted the service was excellent.

Everyone at the wake complimented your service and each person said it represented my Dad perfectly.

I would have no hesitation in recommending your services to anyone who would need or prefer a humanist celebration of life.

I truly felt that you understood the essence of my mother and this came across in the script that you prepared. The service truly reflected mum’s views on life and the afterlife and the poem you read was truly beautiful.
