Vow Renewals

Vow Renewals

Whether you’ve been together for 5 or 40 years, does it just feel right to make a public declaration about your love for one another?

There could be any number of reasons –

Whatever they might be, you want to remind yourselves what you committed to all those years ago.

A Vow Renewal ceremony is a wonderful way to make that declaration of commitment.

Why might you choose to renew your vows?

Perhaps you’re approaching a special anniversary – marking 10, 25, 40, 50 or even 60 years. Or perhaps one of you has suffered a serious illness. This sometimes brings into focus what is important – publicly re-declaring your love for one another feels precious. Or having come through a rocky, challenging time, this could be a way to remind each other how much you mean to one another.

Maybe your grown-up children are getting married and it just feels right to share in the occasion and have a joint commitment ceremony. Or, perhaps you simply want to remind each other what it is you love about each other. Whatever the reason, maybe it feels time to refresh those vows. And, after all, it’s a good excuse for a party!

What is a Vow Renewal Ceremony?

The type of ceremony will, of course, depend on your circumstances. Why are you renewing your vows? Is one of you seriously ill? How much can you afford? Do you want a quiet intimate affair or a big event with all your friends and family? Whatever you want, then together we can make it happen. I’ll be there to help create the perfect ceremony for you both.

You may want it to be something like a big wedding, especially if you were not able to afford one when you were younger; a ceremony with vows and commitments, symbolic actions, exchanging rings, readings, music. Or perhaps a quieter, intimate ceremony with just you and a couple of your friends. You decide.

You might want a ceremony that reflects the type of people you’ve become over the years. You can feature elements that might now be a big part of your lives. For example, if cycling is something you enjoy together, then featuring bicycles would be fun. If music is now central to your life, singing could play a role.

Remember the ceremony is unique and special to you.

Where can your ceremony be held?

The short answer is, anywhere you want it to be.  Is there somewhere special in your lives? A place you go on holiday, the golf club, a forest where you take the dog for a walk.

Or if your garden has become the place where your whole family now congregate, then that may feel most fitting.

Could you hold it in the place where you first got married or you proposed?  Hold the ceremony wherever you want, as long as it feels right for you.

To Renew or to make new Vows?

You may decide to tweak the ones you first made all those years ago. Or maybe they are still right and you just want to remind each other of the promises you made then.

On the other hand, as so many years have passed and you have shared many new experiences, you may feel they no longer reflect the couple you have become and it feels fitting to write new vows and aspirations for the future.

Either is OK. We can create the perfect ceremony that will feel precious and right for both of you and an occasion that you will never forget.

‘And you’ll always love me, won’t you?

Yes

And the rain won’t make any difference?

No’

Quote from Ernest Hemingway’s Farewell to Arms
