Our wedding featured on Sky News!
This morning, Sky News ran a feature about the rise of Humanist ceremonies. Fifteen million people in the UK have been to a Humanist Ceremony, and around one in seven Brits say that they want a Humanist funeral when they die.
In Scotland, Humanist weddings have full legal status, but in the rest of the UK, people wishing to have a Humanist wedding ceremony must also have a civil ceremony in order to make the marriage legally binding. We’re hoping that this will soon change! The government are considering and are due to announce their decision to give legal recognition to humanist marriages, which could reverse the decline in marriage as they have done in the ten years of legal recognition in Scotland.
The highly customisable nature of Humanist ceremonies mean that there are practically endless possibilities when it comes to the kind of wedding you can have. While the majority of Humanist weddings have a recognisable traditional look to them, some can be completely different! To illustrate this, Sky News featured our own wedding that we had in June of this year: a rock-n’-roll-steampunk-circus themed wedding that really broke the mold!
