Namings

As you embark on the wild adventure of parenthood…

What are your hopes and dreams for your child’s future?
What ‘super-powers’ do you hope they’ll inherit?
Why have you chosen their name?  What does it mean to you?
What values do you want your family to live by?
Who will be the most important people in your child’s life and upbringing?
What promises/commitments will you make to your child?

We’ll explore all this and more as I prepare your child’s naming ceremony with you.
The ceremony will be personal, memorable, meaningful.

I absolutely LOVE namings!

I create personalised non-religious ceremonies to help you welcome a child in your own unique way.

As a new mum, I wanted to celebrate the arrival of our gorgeous shiny new human, and share our hopes for the future with those closest to us, but a religious christening just didn’t feel right for us. A humanist naming ceremony was the perfect answer.  Our celebrant, Viv, was awesome. We gathered a bunch of family and friends together in our local pub garden, and had a wonderful ceremony that felt so unique and personal to our little family.  The day was full of laughter and happy tears.  There were babies playing on the lawn, live music, painting, and cake – lots of cake. Most importantly, our daughter was surrounded by the love and support of our favourite people, who promised to always be there for her.

As a celebrant, I feel privileged to help other families feel that same joy and mark one of life’s most important moments in a way that feels authentic to you.

I won’t overload you with content here, as there is loads of great background information about namings on the Humanists UK website.

One question I hear a lot though…

Are Naming Ceremonies just for newborn babies?

Nope! A naming ceremony often marks the birth of a baby, but they can also be held in conjunction with a first birthday, to celebrate an adoption at any age, to welcome much-loved stepchildren into a blended family, to acknowledge the unity of a family from different faith backgrounds, or even to mark coming-of-age for young adults.  For transgender adults, a re-naming ceremony can be a joyful and meaningful way to celebrate the next chapter in your life and identity, in the presence of those you love.

Families are created, moulded, shaped and renewed in so many ways. A humanist naming ceremony gives you the opportunity to celebrate in a way that’s unique and personal to you. I’d love to discuss your ideas with you!
