Choosing a Humanist Wedding Celebration:

A humanist celebration of a wedding/partnership is tailor-made to suit you. The choices are yours: the venue, the music, the readings.  You can write your own vows.  You can exchange rings, light candles, plant trees, jump over brooms or bind your hands together in an ancient ritual just as this couple are doing on the left.

The only thing that I cannot do is the legal side – the law in England states that you still need to have a register office ceremony.

Who doesn’t love a love story?

At the heart of every wedding ceremony is a great celebration of your love! The role I play in your day begins at the moment of booking where you can share your initial ideas.  Later in the process I will meet you and come to know all about your decisions to marry, and capture all that matters to you in a unique ceremony written just for you!   At that stage I am open to any ideas, happy to honour wishes for the inclusion of traditional aspects of a ceremony such as vows, and ring exchanges, but equally I am happy to help to guide you to create your own tradition, a ritual only about you two!

We could not have asked for a more magical ceremony. Even from our first online meeting with Kate, we could tell how perfect she would be to conduct our ceremony. We felt that maybe combining a vow renewal and our daughter’s naming ceremony would make a mismatched, disjointed service, but Kate did a wonderful job and merging the two together and it flowed beautifully. She really listened to what we said and had a good read on us as a couple so much that when I read the first draft of the ceremony I was in tears, it was so beautiful! Writing and Presenting the Ceremony

My role as celebrant is to help you in creating the ceremony you want. I will take full responsibility for the delivery, for managing any additional speakers on the day, and for checking the rings are in the right place! Your role is to help me find the story you want to share. This should reflect your personalities – whether it is light-hearted and humorous, or more serious. I share the drafts of the ceremony with you and it is perfectly acceptable for the ceremony to undergo a number of drafts as your ideas change across the preparation time. You have an important role in shaping the ceremony, whilst my role is making sure it is brought to life on the day.

The fee for a wedding in 2024 will be £625:00.     It may be necessary to charge travelling expenses if the wedding is beyond 10 miles from my home address. These expenses are added to the final bill at 45 pence per mile.  In 2022 I conducted weddings on a Hampshire beach; in Dorset; Chichester; in the Wiltshire countryside and locally here in Southampton.  I am happy to travel to your selected venue. On confirming a booking it is usual for me to ask for a deposit of £75:00 to secure the date.  The fee includes:

• an initial no-obligation phonecall or meeting to discuss your preliminary ideas
• a full planning meeting to begin to hear your wishes and how the ceremony might come together
• the preparation of a tailor-made script for your ceremony which is written to include all of your ideas and open to as many changes, additions you wish to make
• preparation of readings for your speakers and vows for the couple
• a rehearsal at the venue,
• my services on the day
• a presentation copy of the script to keep
