Weddings & Renewal of Vows

YOUR STORIES – YOUR WORDS – YOUR PEOPLE -YOUR DAY

As a Humanist wedding celebrant, I will take time get to know you and your story as a couple, so that I can understand what marriage means to you and then reflect this in your ceremony script.

I will encourage you to write your own promises or aspirations to each other.

I will share ideas with you about how to include symbolic acts in your ceremony. The exchange of rings is the one most familiar to us, but there are many others that you can have in addition, or in place of this e.g Handfasting (Tying the Knot) , Rose Ceremony, Keepsake Box, Sand Blending,  Unity Candles.

You may want to draw on traditions from your family heritage and culture, or even create your own new ones. Symbolic acts are a good way to remember or include other members of the family, especially children if you have any.

Your ceremony can also include the more traditional components such as music, (live or recorded), readings of poetry or prose, and communal singing.

A Humanist Wedding / Renewal of Vows Ceremony usually lasts between 25-45 minutes.

It is an inclusive ceremony, based on equality and mutual respect. Whilst it is a non- religious occasion, we want everyone present to feel comfortable and enjoy being part of your ceremony  regardless of their personal beliefs – religious or otherwise.

It is important to note that Humanist Weddings are not yet  legal in England, so you will need to do the legal bit at the register office as well. I can explain more about this when you contact me.
