‘Pip was a really lucky find for us. We felt her positive attitude and ideas made our daughter’s naming ceremony. We appreciated how easy she was to communicate with and that she really wanted to make this day special. If we have any special occasions to celebrate in the future, we will definitely ask Pip again! ‘

Namings are happy and very personal occasions. They are a wonderful way to welcome your child to the world and a great way to start off a celebration with family and friends. Namings are not just for babies, they can be for toddlers, older children and even adults!

A naming can take place anywhere, indoors, outdoors, in your home, in you garden, in a park or a hired space. I’m even offering Zoom namings at the moment!

A naming provides the opportunity for parents and other adults, guide parents, god-parents or grandparents for example, to make commitments to your child in front of the people who are important to you all.

Every humanist naming ceremony is unique and is written especially for you and your family.

The ceremony could include:

Welcome & Introduction

Music and singing.

Why we are celebrating the arrival of your child, you may wish to share some of your ‘story’, your hopes and values as a parent.

Readings – poetry or a reading from a favourite book

Commitments from supporting adults, also known as ‘guide-parents’

Parental commitments or promises to their child.

The meaning of your child’s name and why those names were chosen.

The formal naming.

A symbolic gestures for example, giving of gifts, lighting candles or planting a tree…

It’s entirely up to you.

Whatever you may be thinking of do get in touch and together we can create the ceremony that is most appropriate for you and your family.
