About Humanism

The Humanist tradition originated in ancient eastern and western philosophies and modern day humanists can be found the world over.  Humanists value our planet and everything on it. We don’t need religion to experience awe and wonder; they can be found in the breathtaking beauty of nature and the fascinating discoveries of science.  Tolerance and empathy are a humanist’s core values; we argue that human beings are perfectly capable of living an ethical life without religious morality.   Humanism can be summed up by the Twitter tag of #GoodWithoutGod and the phrase “treat others as you would have them treat you” [you might recognise this as a Christian concept but it is the basis of many ethical systems that predate its Biblical acculturation].
